In today’s digital world, the new technology keeps replacing old ones. But some technologies set a milestone for companies to achieve. Folding smartphones is one such technology. Since the launch of Samsung Galaxy Fold, it was assumed that other brands will soon adopt this technology as well. But since then, not much competition has been provided to Samsung. The descendent of the same Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 was launched last year, and there seemed no competition of it. But recently, Honor launched its first-ever folding smartphone Honor Magic V. It is considered a very strong competitor to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Let’s discuss which is the best folding smartphone: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 vs Honor Magic V.
Honor Magic V vs Samsung galaxy Z Fold 3
Honor Magic V is the first-ever folding smartphone from the company. It has launched in China, but the company is unsure about its global launch and can launch soon. As stated by the company, it will be the slimmest foldable smartphone as of now. It comes with a 7.9-inch, 90 Hz internal (unfolded) display while 6.4-inch, 120 Hz external (folded) display. This will be the first smartphone to consist of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. It is only 14.3 mm thick, 72.7 mm wide (when folded), and 6.7 mm thick, 141.1 mm (when unfolded).
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 was launched last year as the descendant of the Samsung fold series. It comes with a 7.6-inch, 120 Hz internal display while 6.2-inch, 120 Hz external display, which is quite less than Honor Magic V. It will come with Snapdragon 888 chipset. Honor V dimension is quite thick the dimensions of Honor Magic V. The advantage of Samsung is that it consists of S-pen functionality, which will be missing in Honor and is more durable as it is IPX8 water-resistant.

The external and internal display size of Honor Magic V is 7.9-inch and 6.4- inch respectively, which is quite greater than Samsung fold z 3 displays of 7.6-inch and 6.2-inch respectively. But the refresh rate of the Samsung fold Z3 is quite better than the Honor Magic V. Both consist of excellent OLED displays. Moreover, Honor is also quite very slim as compared to Samsung Fold 3. Honor V is also providing a better resolution of 2272×1984 pixels as compared to Samsung Fold 3 resolution of 2208×1768 pixels. Samsung also provides the facility of using the S pen. It is more durable than Honor as it has IPX8 certification and is water-resistant. But, due to the large display size, and better resolutions I will say that Honor magic V is ahead of Samsung Z fold 3 in a matter of display.
The Honor Magic V comes with 5 cameras in total. There are 3 rear cameras of 50MP (main sensor) +50MP (ultra-wide sensor) +50MP (spectrum enhanced camera). Honor has described that a third camera will be very useful for photography in foggy type weather. There is a 42 MP front camera on both inner and outer display respectively. Both front and rear cameras support 4k video resolution.
Whereas, Samsung Z Fold 3 consists of 12 MP (OIS shooter main camera) + 12 MP (telephoto lens) +12MP (ultrawide lens). It consists of a 10 MP front camera on the outer display and poor quality 4 MP UDC camera on the inner one. It also supports 4K video resolution in both rear and front cameras.
The Galaxy z fold 3 back camera is better than Honor as it is more versatile but due to the lack of richness in the front camera, I will prefer Honor Magic V from a camera perspective.
The Honor Magic V has a 4750 mAh battery and incredible 66 W fast charging support, whereas the Samsung has a healthy battery life of 4400 mAh and 25 W charging support. Both of them are providing a talking time of 30 hours.
As you can see above, due to better battery life and greater fast charging support, Honor is far better than Samsung fold 3 in terms of battery.
Samsung uses Android v11 and has an incredible chipset of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 with a 2.84 GHz octa-core CPU. The Honor Magic V will come with Android v12. It is providing the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and is the first smartphone to launch with it. It provides a 3 GHz octa-core CPU. Moreover, Honor is using 4nm process technology which is better than Samsung’s 5nm technology. The honor comes with Adreno 730 graphics, whereas Samsung is behind with Adreno 660 graphics.
With the above specifications, you can surely go for Honor Magic V when it comes to technical and performance points of view.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 has reached an AnTuTu score of 7,36,188 which is not that great when compared to other Samsung devices. But Honor Magic V has got an excellent AnTuTu Score of 1,02,8772.
Both the devices are coming with similar variants of 12 GB RAM and 256/512 GB internal storage. The Honor Magic V is launched in China with a price of CNY 10,999 for a 512 GB variant. While Samsung Fold Z 3 is costing around 15,000 CNY. Honor Magic V will cost around $2,200 (Rs.1,16,000) globally, while Samsung Z Fold 3 costs around $1,899 (Rs. 1,57,999).
So, readers, we have above discussed all the specifications of both the devices and which one you should prefer. It also depends on your usage and company trust. If you always prefer Samsung over other brands, you will surely go for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. But as per my opinion in terms of specifications I would prefer you to go for Honor Magic V. I Hope you enjoyed Samsung Z fold 3 vs Honor Magic V.
