Samsung Set to Turn the Tables With its Xclipse 920 GPU

Samsung has now officially launched its new Exynos 2200 SoC with a one-week delay. This flagship SoC is considered to have emerged as a huge competition to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This new flagship has many features, which is why it is considered a desert for gamers who love a flawless gaming experience. But the most highlighting feature is the AMD RDNA-2 technology-based Xclipse 920 GPU, which, as stated by Samsung provides “the ultimate mobile phone gaming experience with enhanced graphics and AI.” Let’s discuss Xclipse 920 GPU features and whether it is really going to be the ultimate gift to mobile gamers and be a game-changer? Also, information about the flagship Exynos 2200 SoC and what we think about it?

Exynos 2200 SoC: a 4nm based Processor

Exynos 2200 is built on 4-nanometre(nm) EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) process. It will have an octa-core CPU with a tri-cluster structure. It will come with 1xCortex-X2, 3xCortex-A710, 4xCortex-A510. This will provide the CPU with great efficiency and performance. But Samsung has not mentioned anything about the clock speed of the CPU.

It will come with a very powerful AI and an upgraded NPU, which is claimed to provide two times more performance than its predecessor. Samsung has claimed that it will provide users with the ultimate graphics experience for gamers. But Samsung has not stated much about its NPU, which could be a matter of difference between it and Snapdragon, as NPU plays a great role when it comes to flagship phones.

It will come with an integrated secure element (ISE) for the purpose of security, which will store private cryptographic keys. They are also ensuring that the user’s data is secured by reinforcing data encryption safely. But there’s no more information regarding the ISE and security.

ISP will support camera resolutions of up to 200 MP. It will help Samsung release a phone with very high resolution in the future. It can connect to up to 7 sensors of the camera. As per Samsung a good combination of AI present in NPU and ISP will enable many ML-related camera features, especially based on face recognition. It will also support up to 8K resolution. It is also expected to provide a longer playback time.

Samsung also claims that the Exynos 2200 SoC is 20% faster than the Exynos 2100. The on-paper reports of the Samsung 2200 SoC look really surprising. However, we need to wait to see the actual performance improvement of the Exynos chipset.

AMD RDNA-2 based Xclipse 920 Mobile GPU: A Complete Game Changer?

Samsung had a partnership with AMD to provide gamers with the best GPU of all time. The Korean-based company wanted to bring high improvements to its Mali-G78MP14 of Exynos 2100, which made it join with AMD. It is the first chip that is based on RDNA-2 based GPU technology. It is mainly used in PlayStation 5, Xbox, etc. This means that the company is trying to integrate the graphics used in the console and computer-based projects into the mobile chip. The integration of these two companies has opened the doors for Samsung to excel in the field of GPU.

The GPU will consist of the first-ever hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing (RT) solution for mobile phones. It refers to technology that stimulates how light behaves originally. GPU also consists of variable rate shading (VRS). It allows users to use low shading in processes that don’t require better quality. It will increase the frame rate there. As per the company’s claim, it will provide us with realistic and immersive visuals while playing mobile games.

Samsung, in his launch video, has stated that “Play time is over and gaming marketplace is about to get serious with the launching of RDNA-2 based GPU”. But the main concern is that the frequency rate of GPU is also not mentioned by Samsung. But we hope we will surely get something far better than the previously launched Mali-G78MP14, which was not of that great quality.

When will Xclipse 920 release?

Samsung has mentioned that it is in mass production. It also extended the date of launch, which was 11 January 2022, and deleted the tweets for the same. It has created a rumor that Exynos 2200 is not at all going to launch out or is not practically feasible. The company has now launched it but has not mentioned which device it will come on. But as we know, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series is just some time away from its launch and can launch anytime. We might see this new Xclipse 920 GPU’s performance soon in Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. It is expected to launch in the Unpacked event 2022.

According to reports, the Samsung S22 series may launch with this latest SoC in US and Europe first. This series of models have been listed on GalaxyClub by Italian retailers. But we will be clearer when the expected date arrives, i.e., February 8, 2022 (which is the expected date of Unpacked Event 2022).

Conclusion

Samsung has taken a big step in the field of mobile graphics with its Xclipse 920 GPU and has challenged major companies like MediaTek and Qualcomm. But Samsung has not mentioned clearly any data regarding CPU and GPU frequency, GPU performance analysis, or more information regarding NPU. It can play a vital role in the conflict of interest of users, but we will hopefully get updates as the launch approaches. However, we still think that Samsung’s Xclipse is going to be a game-changer for the mobile gaming industry. Features like Ray Tracing and VRS are definitely going to set it apart from the other flagship GPUs in the market.
