No one likes some client issues to ruin the fun of gaming but yet we face these issues regularly. Well if you are facing issues with League look nowhere, as we discuss ways to repair the League of Legends client in this article.
I. Things to check before you repair League of Legends:
Before you start any repair process you might want to check a few settings and menus in windows. These settings might affect key processes behind the working of client programs and the games too and could be causing your issues.
1. Windows Firewall:
Windows Firewall can sometimes be an issue for your clients or in general all online games’ problems.
If the game or client program is not allowed through the Firewall it won’t have the required network access and thus won’t work as it should.
So, just make sure you check that in Windows Firewall settings.
2. Outdated Drivers:
Old outdated drivers can be the cause of issues with the clients and if you didn’t update those in a while you should. It might not only fix and repair your trouble with League of Legends but also might give you some performance boost overall.
3. Windows Update:
Also, make sure you update Windows to the latest patch whether it’s Windows 10 or 11. The update also comes with crucial drivers as well like the ones for your network adapters which are essential for applications like the League Client.
4. Any Resource Conflict:
Go to Task Manager and take a look at the usage overall of the CPU, GPU, and RAM. Check for any programs which are taking up too many resources and leaving too little for other programs. This is an important thing you should definitely check while you are in the repair and optimization process of League of Legends or any other game for that matter.
II. How to Repair League of Legends (LoL) Client?
There are mainly four ways to repair league of legends: the repair option, deleting the config and logs folder, and reinstalling. The fourth one is a standalone tool from riot games that can do all of the checking, tweaking, and repair itself and is further discussed below.
1. League of Legends (LoL) Repair Option:
There is a simple repair option for you in the client which should fix all the problems you might face in playing League.
In order to do that you need to:
- Open the League of Legends Client
- Click the Cog icon to open the settings menu.
- Scroll down in the General tab
- Click on the Initiate Full Repair option and wait.
This repair process will detect problems and then fix them for you by reinstalling those corrupted files. This should be the solution to all of the problems but if you have problems even after this you can try the other methods listed below.
2. Deleting Config and Logs and then Repairing:
Config files manage how your game would run, what settings, resolution, keybinds to configure, etc. So if that gets corrupted your League of Legends Client might need repair.
So to do that:
- Go to your League of Legends folder. The default location is C:\Riot Games\League of Legends.
- Delete the Config and Logs files
- Optional: Do the Repair step.
Sometimes none of the repair or deleting config steps work and you have to go for a fresh install.
Just delete it from the Apps and Features menu and download the installer from the League of Legends website.
4. Hextech Repair Tool:
Hextech Repair Tool from Riot Games is a software tool that can assist you in resolving a variety of League of Legends problems. It is almost entirely automated so it takes a lot of DIY tweaking with your settings and does it itself. It can detect issues and then fix them for you and the best part is that it is free.
The tool can be used to run ping tests, synchronize your system clock, gather system and LoL logs, force the repatching of the game, reinstall the game, create a firewall exception (to enable it), disable the firewall, and other tweaks as well.
You can choose between these options and execute them with the tool.
Basically, it does all the work we mentioned in this whole article and can be your favorite software. So, go ahead and give it a go.
