River Raids was introduced in AC Valhalla with the 1.1.2 Update as free content. In this game mode, you have to raid different locations in your longship. You can play this game mode anytime once Eivor has settled in England. You start your first River Raids with the “A River to Raid” quest in England. The recommended power level for this game mode is pretty high. So I suggest you level up as much as you can before playing this game mode. You’ll face a lot of powerful enemies along the locations that you’ll raid. In this article, we’ll discuss how to leave River Raids in AC Valhalla, how they work, and more.
1. What are River Raids in AC Valhalla?
In this game mode, you leave with your crew in your longship to raid certain locations. You can start your first raid with the “A River to Raid” quest. In this quest, you’ll need to build the River Raid Dock, this quest will also act as a tutorial for you to understand the River Raids. You’ll also construct the Jomsviking Hall.

Once you’re done with this quest, you can leave for the River Raids in AC Valhalla regularly whenever you want to. You’ll be getting access to new maps which are completely separate from the maps of England and Norway in the main game. You can get access to these maps by talking to Vagn, which will be present in your settlement. This game mode offers six rivers which you can raid and get certain rewards:
- River Exe
- River Severn
- River Dee
- River Berbha
- River Erriff
- River Rhine
Each river has its unique map and you’ll need to raid farms, villages, monasteries, and military encampments with your crew, who’ll accompany you on the raids. The main goal of these raids is to collect Foreign Supplies. You can use these Foreign Supplies to upgrade certain new buildings in your settlement. You can also use these supplies at Vagn’s shop to purchase new cosmetic items from Vagn.
These River Raids are replayable and each time you play a same map, their enemies and rewards change as well.
2. How to Start and Leave River Raids in AC Valhalla?
Firstly, you need to complete the “A River to Raid” quest, which is a tutorial for you as to how River Raids work. Once you’re done with this quest and want to start another River Raid, you need to go and speak to Vagn in your settlement. You can only start River Raids if you’ve progressed in the story where Eivor and his clan have settled in England.

As you interact and speak to Vagn at the River Raid Dock, and select “Let’s go Raiding!”, you need to select out of the six rivers, which you want to raid. You also need to select the crew that you want to take on the raid. Once you do so, you’ll be then transported to the selected river in a longship and then you start raiding farms, villages, monasteries, and military encampments with your crew.
If you wish to exit this game mode and leave the River Raid, you can select “Return to Ravensthorpe” from the quick action wheel.

I. Point of Attractions and Objectives in River Raids
As you’re in a River Raid, you’ll approach a location along the riverbank and you have to select the Raid option. Once you do so, your crew will go and search for loot in that location. If they encounter any enemies in the process, they’ll deal with it. The main objective for these River Raids is to collect all the Wealth and resources in that location. You’ll be looking for four types of Wealth in the location:
- Crew Rations: You can find crew rations in civilian locations. You can find these locations on the river’s map. Crew Rations will add a ration to you and each of your crew members.
- Foreign Supplies: You can find Foreign Supplies in military locations, druid locations, and monasteries. You can use these Foreign Supplies at Vagn’s shop to purchase certain items. These resources can also be used to upgrade your longship and Jomsviking hall.
- Gear and Weapons: You can also get certain new gears and weapons along the River Raid. Armor pieces are scattered all along the routes of the river you’re raiding. You need to follow the quest arcs to get all the gear pieces.
- Book of Knowledge: You can find certain Books of Knowledge along the river routes. You can find them in monasteries and druid locations. There are around six new abilities that you can get for these River Raids.
