Discord Makes Festive Notifications and Ringtones Optional After User Backlash

If you’re a regular Discord user, you may have noticed that Discord has brought the new set of Christmas sounds as the notifications and ringtones. As part of festive snowgiving, every notification and ringtone sound of the Discord was briefly updated to give the users a more festive feel. But last night, discord festive notifications are made optional after users voiced their anger with the ear-splitting festive alerts and ringtone on the official Discord twitter account.

But if you are not a fan of the newly updated sound pack, here is how you can disable it.

How to turn off the Festive Discord Sound Pack

  1. Head to the user settings
  2. Then select notifications
  3. Scroll down to the sound section and,
  4. From the drop-down menu, select Classic instead of Snowgiving

However, many users have not experienced this festive sound because this feature is only available on the desktop/browser version of the Discord app. So if you are an app user, you may need to update your Discord app to the latest version.

If you updated your app and still the discord festive notifications sound is not updated to the festive one, here is how you can enable it.

How to enable Sound Pack

  1. Head to the user settings
  2. Then select notifications
  3. Scroll down to the sound section and,
  4. From the drop-down menu, select Snowgiving to enable your festive sound

The Festive sounds are available for the following:

  • New Message
  • User Join
  • User Leave
  • Deafen
  • Outgoing Call
  • Incoming Call
  • Mute
  • Unmute
  • User Join
  • Stream Stopped
  • Voice Disconnected
  • User Moved

Another recent Discord update, which hinted at integrating bitcoin wallets and other blockchain capabilities, was received with overwhelming user dissatisfaction. As a result, several angry customers cancelled their memberships to Discord’s premium service Nitro and Discord claims “no present intentions” to integrate cryptocurrency into the network. This suggests that integration will not be tried soon in the future.

Stay tuned for more updates.
